Mini-camps

The NFL teams released its mini-camps dates. Mostly it is to get the rookies on the field to "see what there made of". For a complete list check out: www.nfl.com/news/story/10161134 I myself am not sure where these camps are located. I wouldn't mind going to see one.

Draft Day is over

The draft is finally conluded. There was a lot of late round deals that started today. Actually to many to account for. Example, Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith of Ohio State, he got selected in the 5th round 174th overall. Ohio state played in the BCS title game against Florida Gators (whom won)and Chris Leak who has not been selected at all. Randy Moss was traded to New England from Oakland for a fourth round pick. A strange draft year.

Draft Update

Well the first round is over. The number one and two pick is not much of a surprise.
#1 russell_jamarcus
#2johnson_calvin
But what happened later surprised me. The Eagles traded down with Dallas in turn who traded down with Cleveland so they could pick up quinn_brady The Eagles selected a QB named
kolb_kevin do Andy Reid and the Eagles feel that the team is set enough that they couldn't just grab this guy at there normal first round pick. I don't know. I still have faith, it also leads me to believe that they are not comfortable with the QB position, maybe Mcnabb might not be 100% when he returns this season or if he can return this season. At least it wasn't another OL or DL player again. They also drafted a DE abiamiri_victor If you would like more up to the minute picks go to www.nfl.com/draft

Draft Weekend!

A lot of fans are really excited this weekend. They want to see what college prospects there favorite teams pick. "Will he be an immediate impact player like Vince Young of the Titans and Reggie Bush of the Saints?" or Will he be developing player over so many years? or Will he be a complete bust? If you have a favorite team check out there progress at: www.nfl.com/draft/drafttracker If you want to see some "inside" stuff check out:www.scout.com I personally would like to see the Eagles go with high powered offensive pick.

Williams return?

Late April 1999, The Eagles selected Donovan McNabb QB in the annual draft(this years is next weekend). The fans that were present "BOOED" the selection, they wanted the Eagles to get in position to acquire Ricky Williams (or another "prime-time" running back). Well, since that time the Eagles had gone to 4 NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl. As for Ricky Williams, he had been suspended 3 times for substance abuse (marijuana, not performance enhancing drugs DUH). For the 2006-07 season he had to play in the Canadian League because he had been suspended a fourth time for the same thing incurring a one year suspension. Here is the latest developments(courtesy of:http://www.nfl.com/):

ST. LOUIS (April 19, 2007) -- Ricky Williams, who has applied for reinstatement in the NFL after a one-year suspension for substance abuse, could find a home with the St. Louis Rams. Coach Scott Linehan, the offensive coordinator when Williams played for the Miami Dolphins in 2005, said he would consider adding Williams to the roster as a backup. The Rams need depth behind Steven Jackson.
Williams, who will turn 30 in May, played in Canada last year and is eligible for reinstatement after April 27. Earlier this month Williams' agent, Leigh Steinberg, sent a letter asking that he be allowed to return to the Dolphins.
If that request was granted, the Rams would have to work out a trade with Miami.
Williams, a former Heisman Trophy winner at Texas, rushed for 1,853 and 1,372 yards in 2002 and '03 with the Dolphins before retiring shortly before training camp in 2004. He returned in 2005 as the backup to rookie Ronnie Brown, rushing for 743 yards and a 4.4-yard average.

Bledsoe retiring

April 11, 2007) -- Drew Bledsoe retired, ending a 14-year career in which he made two Super Bowls.
The top overall pick by New England in the 1993 draft out of Washington State, the four-time Pro Bowl quarterback played for the Patriots, Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys. He was a starter for all three teams, but ended up as a backup with the Cowboys.
Bledsoe threw for 44,611 yards and 251 touchdown passes in his career.

The 35-year-old Bledsoe lost his starting job to Tom Brady in New England in 2001 when Bledsoe got hurt in the second game of the season, and to Tony Romo in Dallas after Game 6 of last season.
He also asked for his release from the Bills after the 2004 season, when the team informed him it was going with J.P. Losman as the starter the next year. Bledsoe didn't want to be a backup there after he led the Bills to the brink of the playoffs.
He then signed with the Cowboys and was their starter for all of 2005 and part of '06.
In 1996, Bledsoe guided the Patriots to the AFC championship. They lost to Green Bay in the Super Bowl

He remained the Patriots' starter until he was tackled by the Jets' Mo Lewis in the second game of the 2001 season and injured his chest. Brady took over, although Bledsoe got New England into the Super Bowl in place of the injured Brady by beating Pittsburgh in the AFC title game.
Brady then was the MVP of the Super Bowl victory against St. Louis.
The Bills acquired Bledsoe during the 2002 NFL Draft by dealing their first-round pick in 2003 to New England. Bledsoe had strong first season in Buffalo, setting 10 team passing records, including single-season marks with 4,359 yards and 375 completions.
His numbers, however, began to decline drastically. In his final 30 games with Buffalo, Bledsoe never finished with more than 296 yards passing, while registering 29 touchdowns and 27 interceptions during that stretch.
He finishes seventh all-time in yards passing, 13th in touchdown passes and fifth in completions (3,839).
Compliments of www.nfl.com/news/story/10121986

I would like to add my farewell to yet another great model- player. It signifies another another end to a small era.

Code of conduct....

On April 10th, the NFL strengthened there code of conduct policy. It pertains "off the field conduct", if you like to learn more checkout:www.nfl.com/news/story/10119182 . Very soon after this release, two players where suspended. More details checkout: www.nfl.com/news/story/10119161
I think it is a good idea, these players are LUCKY enough to get paid huge amounts of money to play a game they love and have fun at the same time. It's about time!

Pigskin Classic Football Camp

Registrations for June mini-camp will begin April 4th 6:30-8:30 at the Cannoneers Club in Lansdale, Pa. The camp is open to all children ages 5-15. If you need any more info: eteamz.active.com/cannoneersfootball/index.cfm

Return/Trades

Andy Reid has returned from his leave of absence. The Eagles also traded DT Darwin Walker, conditional 2008 draft pick to the Buffalo Bills for 2 time pro bowler LB Takeo Spikes and QB Kelly Holcomb. Spikes, with a 9 year career with first the Bengals and then the Bills; brings a good element to the defensive side of the team. I think quarter or half-way through the season he will to start to have an impact. My concern though is now there is a void in the front defensive line where Darwin Walker played. But, recently I had learned that they had signed a free agent d-line player Montae Reagor from the Colts.

Retireing

Marshall Faulk(RB, Rams)will officially on March 26th at the NFL Team owners meeting. He was sidelined with a knee injury all of this past season, he lost his starting position in the 2005-2006 season to Steven Jackson(current RB, Rams). Faulk had a lucrative career that started in Indianapolis then moved to St. Louis where he won a Super Bowl. He was a Pro Bowl (4x's) and league MVP(4x's). He is ninth in career rushing with 12,000+ yards and 100 touchdowns. He also set the record for 4 consecutive with 1,000 yards rushing/1,000 receiving. I think its sad to see such great players go so abruptly. Example: Robert Smith(vikings), *Barry Sanders(Lions), and recently Tiki Barber(Giants). *[Sanders was one of the greatest I have ever seen he had retired early] I am sure there plenty others.

Eagles re-siging/signing

On March 15th, the Eagles re-signed C. Buckhalter to a two contract extension, and signed a W.R. named Kevin Curtis from the Rams for six year contract. Check the Eagles website for more info:www.philadelphiaeagles.com . Personally, I don't know if Buckhalter is worth the extra length in his contract because of his three major knee injuries in his short career, I think he is damaged goods. Curtis on the other hand may be a decent acqusition, he played underneath two major receivers: Tory Holt and Issac Bruce. Now he has a chance to be a starter which he wasn't before. I still don't think the Eagles are doing a whole lot to improve on last season. I think they are waiting for the draft in late April.

March9th-10th-11th

This weeknd I am attending a coachs clinic, it is taking place in Cherry Hill N.J. It is being held at at the Cowne Plaza Phila/Cherry Hill Hotel. It is featuring various coaches from different levels(youth, high school, college, and some NFL, some AFL). You can navagate the web site: www.megaclinic.com for more info. Me being a youth coach I am able to attend any and all seminars free of charge. I think I will have some fun and maybe learn a thing or two.

So much....

At this point in the off-season there is so many things going on in the NFL. Like Rookie Combine, waivers, trades, free-agencies. Like for instance the Miami Dolphins just signed LB Joey Porter he spent the last 8 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. To me it was a big surprise that the Steelers would have let him go so easily. That's business. The Eagles don't seem to be doing much at all.

E.A.G.L.E.S.

I bleed Green, so I could not leave the last post about the Bears...

BEARS

I just wanted to post another video..

Garcia out, Feeley extended..

In the last few days the buzz around Philly, is Jeff Garcia has not been made an offer to stay as the second string QB. Instead, the management extended A.J. Feeley's contract another three years. Now, Garcia is a free agent, he made implications that money is not an issue, and he would take a considerable pay cut in order to end his career in Philadelphia. I am sure that issue will send shock waves through the Philly fans. The same fans that were screaming to put Feeley in when McNabb went down. I also agree for them to be upset Garcia proved his worth, and the McNabb injury is still up in the air on when he will return, if he will be 100% also.
Garcia is soon to be 37 years old in the NFL that is old.

Its a valid argument from any angle. Not everyone can be the GM of the Eagles.

NFL Combine

Today was the first day of the NFL combine. The annual event can be viewed on the NFL network. It ends on Feb 28th, the combine is an invite to potential draftees from various universities and colleges around the nation. The athletes perform in simple and complex drills (running, sprinting, weightlifting, and more difficult drills geared towards there position(s). There will be scouts and coaches present. This all boils to who gets picked and when in late April when the draft occurs. Major football fans would know all about this events also analysts and press. Any comments?

(Feb. 19, 2007) -- The coaching changes in the NFL that began with the firings of Jim Mora and Dennis Green on New Year's Day continued into mid-February when the Chargers parted ways with Marty Schottenheimer. In all, seven teams have made coaching changes since the end of the 2006 regular season. Here is a rundown of all the head-coaching moves this offseason.
Movin' out, Movin' in
-TEAM- - Previous Coach - - New Coach -
Arizona Cardinals - Dennis Green - Ken Whisenhunt
Atlanta Falcons - Jim Mora - Bobby Petrino
Dallas Cowboys - Bill Parcells - Wade Phillips
Miami Dolphins - Nick Saban - Cam Cameron
Oakland Raiders - Art Shell - Lane Kiffin
Pittsburgh Steelers - Bill Cowher - Mike Tomlin
San Diego Chargers - Marty Schottenheimer - Norv Turner

Big SURPRISE!!!

SAN DIEGO (Feb. 19, 2007) -- Norv Turner got his third shot at an NFL head coaching job when he was hired Monday by the San Diego Chargers, a week after the surprise firing of Marty Schottenheimer.
The hiring came less than 24 hours after the Chargers wrapped up their interviews. The team planned to introduce Turner at an afternoon news conference. Five years ago, Turner interviewed for the job that went to Schottenheimer.
Turner, the San Francisco 49ers' offensive coordinator, was the only one of the six candidates who's been an NFL head coach, and the only one from the offensive side of the ball.
He inherits a team that was an NFL-best 14-2 last season but melted down in its playoff opener, a stunning 24-21 loss to the New England Patriots.
Turner had trouble winning in the regular season, going 58-82-1 in head coaching stints with Washington and Oakland. Schottenheimer had trouble winning in the postseason, going 5-13 overall and 0-2 with the Chargers.

Hardaway Comments....

Recently, Tim Hardaway former NBA All-Star had made elicit comments about gays in professional sports. Now I am kind of torn about this issue. One hand I understand today's culture, I believe "you are what you are", in the world of sports whether it be professional, collegiate, or even high school a open gay individual would not survive. Once that label is placed he or she will have a tough time regardless of talent level. It will be very uncomfortable for the other athletes, and lose focus at time to time. In turn make production go down and ultimately result in losses. Also, create controversy and players lose the desire to even be on the team anymore. One day we will come around and see the light, but until then we will have to deal.

I know this particular statement did not stem from football, but it is a topic involving the entire sports industry.

Andy Ried

Andy Ried has taken off until mid-March for family reasons. If nobody seen this coming your in a fog. You would do the same thing if you could, your family is the strongest team you could ever be on. I hope Negadelphia doesn't start with antics like usual. I support the Eagles, Andy Ried(and his decision), and any one elese who holds loved ones over everything else!

Voting...

On Sunday the 11th, I had gone to a board meeting for the Cannoneers. My "mini-camp" proposal was accepted to be voted in March. I had been made an offer for my efforts. So we will see how this works out in March.

Its officially the OFF-SEASON!

Well, We are finally here, the off season. The score of the Pro Bowl was AFC31-NFC28. Unfortunately, there was an injury to Drew Brees (dislocated left elbow). Otherwise it what was to be expected. A lot of superstars having a good time in Hawaii playing a "pick-up" game. All I have left to say is GO SOUL!!

Cool football video

A typical grudge match between Michigan(my favorite) and Ohio State. Check it out!

What do you think?

So what do you think of the upcoming off-season, with coaches firings, drafts, free agency, and next season outlook. I am actually an Eagles fan, usually I have an idea of what I would think that the Eagles would need to do. In this case I am clueless.

Pro Bowl

This weekend is the Pro Bowl, personally I am not that interested of the "pick-up" game game in sunny Hawaii. I'm not even sure how many people even watch the game or know it is even on the air. Anyway its still football and if I were to make a pick of a winning team (there all "winners" just being their), I would say AFC 30 - NFC 29 (LOL)

Monday, February 5, 2007

For everyone else..

If you didn't watch the Super Bowl for the football, then you watched it for all of the commercials:

http://youtube.com/superbowl

You can vote for the best ones or just view them, Enjoy!!

Thank the stars...

I said in the last posting that the Colts would win by 10, it was by 12 actually. In the last two football weeks I had went 0-6 in my picks. I am not a gambleing man but I like to make announcement picks. I had picked: the Eagles(of course),Seahawks,Chargers,Saints,Patriots, and Ravens all to go to the big dance (not nessecarliy win the Super Bowl just appear). Finally, I picked the Colts to win the Super Bowl.

Thursday, February 1, 2007

Super Bowl 41

So what do you think, Colts or Bears? I think it will be the Colts by 10, the Bears aren't the real deal. Rex Grossman isn't consistent. They relied on defense to much, "you live by the sword, you die by the sword." Maybe if the team sticks together in the future they could be a dynasty team like the Patriots and the Colts. Its Peyton's time.

Core Basics

Recently I have read this book, now it wasn't what I was looking for personally but I definitely learned something about the core basics of offenses. It has plenty of the early plays that certain teams build around. Most of today's offensive attacks revolve around these basic formations and plays. It also has plenty blocking schemes versus a few common defenses and "how to " according to positions. I give this book 2 **out of 4**** for plenty of content, but not so much "fun" reading, plus it was not what I was looking for at the time.

Some changes

As you may or may not notice I have added some content so look around.
